LinuxGizmos: Open Source Group Focuses on Industrial IoT Gateway Middleware

By EdgeX Foundry, In the News

The Linux Foundation has launched an open source, cross-platform “EdgeX Foundry” project based on Dell’s FUSE for standardizing middleware on IoT gateways.

The new EdgeX Foundry organization will develop modular, cross-platform middleware for industrial IoT edge gateways. Based on a Dell FUSE project, the open source group aims to simplify and standardize industrial IoT edge computing “while still allowing the ecosystem to add significant value,” says the Linux Foundation.

SiliconANGLE: EdgeX Foundry Project Aims to Standardize Internet of Things at the Network Edge

By EdgeX Foundry, In the News

It’s no secret that security concerns are holding back the Internet of Things, and much of the blame can be placed on a lack of common IoT development standards.

To address this, the Linux Foundation has just announced a new project that aims to create a common, open framework for IoT edge computing. The initiative also seeks to create an ecosystem of interoperable components for use in the IoT.

SDxCentral: New Linux Open Source Group Focuses on IoT and Edge Computing

By EdgeX Foundry, In the News

Today, the Linux Foundation launched yet another open source group — this one relating to the Internet of Things (IoT) and edge computing. The new group is EdgeX Foundry, and its goal is to standardize industrial IoT edge computing.

According to the Linux Foundation, IoT efforts are fragmented, and they need a common IoT framework. In addition, the sheer quantity of data that will be transmitted from IoT devices is driving adoption of edge computing, where connected devices and sensors transmit data to a local gateway device instead of sending it back to the cloud or a central data center.

ZDNet: Open-Source EdgeX Foundry Seeks to Standardize Internet of Things

By EdgeX Foundry, In the News

Security is the Internet of Things’ (IoT) Achilles heel. One reason that’s so is there is a lack of common IoT development standards. The Linux Foundation, along with 50 companies, is addressing this by building a common open-framework for IoT edge computing and an ecosystem of interoperable components under a new open-source consortium: The EdgeX Foundry.

IT Business Edge: Linux Foundation Advances IoT Interoperability

By EdgeX Foundry, In the News

Looking to foster greater interoperability between endpoints and gateways across Internet of Things (IoT) environments, The Linux Foundation today launched an open source EdgeX Foundry project based on software developed by Dell Technologies.

The announcement was made at the Hannover Messe 2017 conference, and Philip DesAutels, senior director of IoT for The Linux Foundation, says the goal is to reduce the anxiety organizations face when deciding what type of IoT hardware to implement.
